Cricket fans are in for a shock as IPL 2025 will no longer be available for free streaming. The newly launched OTT platform JioHotstar, a result of the Viacom18 and Disney Plus Hotstar merger, has introduced paid subscription plans for IPL matches, starting at Rs. 149.
No More Free IPL Streaming
Until now, cricket enthusiasts enjoyed free streaming of IPL matches on JioCinema. However, with the formation of JioHotstar, free access has been discontinued. Instead, users will be required to subscribe to a plan to continue watching the matches. While the platform may offer a few minutes of free streaming, viewers will have to pay for full access.
JioHotstar Subscription Plans for IPL 2025
Basic Plan: Rs. 149 (3 months) – Mobile only
Annual Mobile Plan: Rs. 499 – Mobile only
Standard Plan: Rs. 299 (3 months) or Rs. 899 (1 year) – Access on two devices
Ad-Free Premium Plan:
Rs. 299 per month
Rs. 499 for three months
Rs. 1,499 for one year – Access on four devices
Viacom18’s Move Towards Paid Streaming
Viacom18 had secured digital media rights for IPL (2023-2027) for Rs. 23,758 crore ($3 billion). For IPL 2023 and 2024, the company allowed free streaming on JioCinema, attracting millions of viewers. However, starting from IPL 2025, this free access is being discontinued.
According to a Reuters report, fans will now need to purchase a subscription plan to watch IPL matches, marking a significant shift in the streaming landscape.
